GHOST FORESTS: History and Future of the Redwoods

Greg King, an award-winning journalist and activist, will present his book The Ghost Forest: Racists, Radicals and Real Estate in the California Redwoods. The Atlantic calls the book “Groundbreaking ... an epic tale of corruption and deception, perpetrated on a mass scale for nearly a century.” Greg will discuss the history of the decimation of redwood forests and share first-hand experience of the fight to save them during the timber wars of the 80s.

John O’Brien, Ph.D., is a climate scientist and research affiliate in the Climate & Ecosystem Sciences Division at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and a visitor in the Climate Analysis Section at the National Center for Atmospheric Research, where he also worked as a postdoctoral research fellow. John will give an up-to-date accounting of current climate change and how our ecosystems are responding to such change. He will also present a quantitative overview of forest resources and management in the redwood region.
