March 24th: Mendocino County Board of Supervisors to Review AB 2494: “Modernizing Our Forest System”

In response to “significant public interest” from folks like you, the Mendocino County Board of Supervisors will discuss whether to take action on Assembly Bill 2494 at their next regular meeting on March 24th. This bill would remove the commercial logging mandate for California’s demonstration state forests, bringing the state closer to its climate goals.

A letter of support from the entire Board would strongly boost support for this bill in the State Legislature. The Board’s 2026 Legislative Platform explicitly included supporting “policies to advance tribal stewardship, ecological restoration, and outdoor access at State Demonstration Forests.” Although a majority of the Supervisors support this bill, not all members have signed a letter of unified support for AB 2494.

Years of community and grassroots support for a mandate change have spurred the Board into action previously, in approving a resolution in 2021 calling for JDSF management to align with climate change commitments by the State while enhancing scientific, recreational, and economic opportunities.

Your voice is needed once again to demand the Board take a stance to support healthy forests and tribal sovereignty in forest management. Tell the Mendocino Board of Supervisors to send a letter of support in favor of AB 2494 to the State Legislature!
